This school welcomes enthusiastic international volunteers who would like to support children in developing their confidence in spoken English. Volunteers become part of the school community and work alongside local teachers to create engaging opportunities for students to practise English in a relaxed and friendly setting.
The students are aged between 6 and 14 and are keen to improve their spoken English, but often have limited opportunities to practise with people from other countries. Volunteers help create this connection through conversation, stories, songs, games and cultural exchange.
No formal teaching qualification is required. The school is looking for people who are patient, open-minded and genuinely enjoy spending time with children. A minimum stay of two weeks is requested so that students have time to become familiar with each volunteer and feel more comfortable speaking English.
Tasks & Roles
Volunteers normally help for around 4–5 hours a day, Monday to Friday, working together with local teachers rather than teaching independently. Activities may include small-group conversations, interactive speaking exercises, reading stories, language games and basic pronunciation practice.
An important part of the role is helping students overcome their hesitation about speaking English. Volunteers encourage them to use everyday language while also sharing aspects of their own background, including stories, music, games, culture and geography.
The activities can be adapted to suit the needs of the students and the volunteer’s interests and skills. The focus is on making English practice enjoyable, practical and accessible.
Living & Getting There
International volunteers stay in a separate private house located on or very close to the school campus. The accommodation includes a private bedroom with a bed and storage space, a private bathroom and a quiet living area where volunteers can relax, read or prepare activities.
Three meals a day are provided, giving volunteers the chance to enjoy freshly prepared, traditional local food and experience everyday life within the community.
The closest airport is Bengaluru International Airport, also known as Kempegowda International Airport (BLR). The school can arrange airport pick-up once the volunteer’s dates and flight details have been confirmed. A member of the school team or a designated driver will meet the volunteer at the arrivals terminal and take them directly to the school.
The school also keeps in contact with volunteers through WhatsApp from their arrival at the airport until they reach their accommodation, helping make the journey to the project as straightforward as possible.
What else
Outside their volunteering hours, participants have free time to explore the surrounding area and experience local life. School staff can offer guidance on places to visit, including local markets, historical sites and lesser-known attractions.
The placement provides an opportunity to experience the local culture beyond the classroom, enjoy home-cooked meals and build meaningful connections with the students and wider community. In return for their time and involvement, volunteers receive accommodation, three meals a day and the opportunity to take part in an authentic cultural exchange.
