Volunteer with a Digital Nomad Community (Mexico)

Volunteer with a Digital Nomad Community in Mexico

This opportunity is ideal for anyone who would like to volunteer with a digital nomad community while experiencing life in the beautiful city of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Mexico. Co404 brings together international digital nomads, freelancers and remote workers, creating a friendly environment where people can meet, socialise and share experiences.

Volunteers play an important role in creating this welcoming atmosphere. Rather than simply helping with practical tasks, they become part of the community and help guests feel at home. The role suits outgoing, friendly people who enjoy meeting new people, starting conversations and bringing people together.

Volunteers receive a free stay of at least one month, along with a daily breakfast budget. In return, they help create the social atmosphere that makes the Co404 experience special.

Tasks & Roles

The volunteer role involves three reception shifts each week, either from 8am to 2pm or from 2pm to 8pm. Reception is informal and community-focused, with volunteers based around the communal kitchen table rather than behind a traditional reception desk. During their shifts, they chat with guests, answer questions, help with check-ins and check-outs and provide assistance when needed.

Community activities are another important part of the role. Volunteers lead at least one activity each week, which could be a shared meal, sunset walk, film night, games evening or another event that encourages guests to spend time together. The volunteer team helps choose additional activities based on everyone’s interests and suggestions, while Co404 covers the costs of the events.

The main responsibility is to bring positive energy to the community. Volunteers are encouraged to spend time with guests, help people make connections and contribute to a warm and inclusive environment. There are no cleaning shifts involved.

Living & Getting There

Volunteers stay in shared, volunteer-only dormitories within the main Co404 coliving house. There are two dedicated rooms, with one shared by two volunteers and another accommodating three. The house is home to around 30 international digital nomads, freelancers and remote workers, making it a great setting for anyone looking to volunteer with a digital nomad community.

Volunteers have access to comfortable bedding and storage, high-speed fibre Wi-Fi, ergonomic coworking areas, soundproof call booths, a fully equipped communal kitchen, comfortable lounges and a courtyard garden. They also have 24-hour access to the shared coliving facilities.

The closest airport is Tuxtla Gutiérrez International Airport (TGZ), also known as Ángel Albino Corzo International Airport. From the airport, San Cristóbal de las Casas can be reached by shared shuttle, private taxi or regular bus services. The journey usually takes around one hour and 15 minutes.

Those travelling by bus can take an ADO or OCC service directly to San Cristóbal. From the main bus station, Co404 is around a 5–10 minute taxi ride or a 15–20 minute walk. Although airport pick-up is not provided, volunteers receive clear arrival instructions and help arranging local transport if needed.

What else

This role is particularly suited to people who enjoy social interaction and want to become part of an international community. Volunteers are expected to be friendly, welcoming and available to help guests when needed. They are also encouraged to enjoy the space and make the most of their own experience in San Cristóbal.

A few simple house rules help maintain a comfortable environment for everyone. Smoking is not permitted indoors, quiet hours begin at 11pm and noise should be kept to a minimum in the coworking space. Food should not be eaten in the bedrooms, and everyone is expected to clean up after themselves, especially in the communal kitchen. Toilet paper and other waste should not be put down the toilets. Outside visitors are welcome, with up to five guests permitted at a time.

For those looking to volunteer with a digital nomad community, Co404 offers the chance to meet people from around the world, enjoy life in San Cristóbal and help create a welcoming home away from home.
