Working holiday in Thailand – requirements & tasks
If you’re hardworking, trustworthy, and passionate about animal welfare, we invite you to join our unique sanctuary! It’s a truly special place, and we’re confident you’ll fall in love with our animals and the rewarding experience of caring for them.
Ideal volunteer qualities:
- Dedicated Animal Lover: Life with animals can be unpredictable! We need volunteers who are reliable and adaptable, even during their free time.
- Strong Commitment: Last-minute cancellations and early departures disrupt our operations. Please plan your trip with some buffer days for travel and sightseeing to avoid changing your dates once you arrive. If traveling a long distance, factor in some rest time before starting your volunteer work.
- Long-Term Availability: We prioritize volunteers who can commit to a minimum of 2-3 months and are 25 years or older. However, we consider younger applicants with strong motivation, relevant experience, and a sense of urgency.
- Clear Communication: Proficiency in English, French, or Dutch is essential.
- Southeast Asia Experience: Previous experience in Thailand or Southeast Asia is a plus.
- Practical and Resourceful: A good dose of common sense is crucial!
- Team Player with Initiative: Be adventurous, self-motivated, and able to work independently, while also being a supportive and collaborative team member.
Typical tasks
While the schedule may seem demanding at first, you’ll quickly adjust to the rhythm of sanctuary life. Here’s a glimpse of the tasks you’ll be involved in, depending on whether you’re on the morning or afternoon shift:
- Daily Care: Keeping the sanctuary clean and tidy is a team effort. You’ll help with sweeping, mopping, laundry, dishes, and, of course, scooping up after our furry friends!
- Meal Preparation: We believe in providing our dogs with fresh, nutritious meals, including fish and meat. You’ll assist with cooking for them every other day.
- Feeding Time: Ensure all dogs and cats receive their meals on time.
- Jungle Adventures: One of the highlights is taking our dogs for leash-free walks in the jungle! They love running and playing in the open space.
- Affection and Care: Spend quality time socializing with the animals, giving them attention, and even a goodnight cookie!
- Health Monitoring: Keep a close eye on the well-being of our animals. This includes bathing dogs with skin conditions and administering medication when needed.
- Supply Runs: Assist with grocery shopping for the animals every 2-3 weeks.
- Other Responsibilities: You may be asked to help with various tasks like managing social media, minor repairs, gardening, and other needs as they arise.
We’d love to know if you have experience in areas like social media management or practical skills such as painting, building repairs, and gardening. Your talents could be a big help to our team!
You’ll contribute approximately 25 hours per week, with Sundays off to relax and recharge.
