Volunteer at a peace project in Northern Ireland – requirements & tasks

We have different kinds of work depending on your skills and interests as well as the length of your stay. We typically have between 10-15 volunteers with us at any one time – with varying ages, nationalities and levels of English proficiency.

Short-term (0-3 months)

For short term volunteers (0-3 months) we’d love to have people with carpentry experience. However, we have plenty of other projects such as painting to do for those that are less experienced in this area. We have large premises so there is always cleaning or housekeeping to do!

As we have lots of upcoming projects, we are happy for you to try your hands at something new or show us your expertise in areas that you’re comfortable with.

Long term (3 months +)

If you dedice to stay with us for a longer period of time we can offer you a position of social media manager, a researcher or a person responsible for establishing contacts and relationships with similar organizations to ours. You could also take care of fundraising. As a fundraiser, your responsibilities would include writing grant applications to both state and privately funded grant providers as well as contacting potential donors to help support our work.

If you are a skilled manual labourer, we’d love to use your experience in carpentry, tiling, painting, plumbing, or as an electrician.

Normally, volunteers perform cooking and cleaning duties on a rotational basis. If you have a knack for cooking, you could provide consistency in fellow volunteers’ meals by helping to cook lunch and dinner during the work week.

We will ask you to work for 20 hours / week and you will have Friday, Saturday and Sunday free.

Volunteer at a peace project in Northern Ireland – what we offer

We offer free accommodation – at the moment each volunteer has their own room. However, this is subject to change and sharing a room is a possibility, depending on the number of volunteers that are here.

We also provide food, we have meals together and, if you are asked to cook, we welcome you to try a recipe from your country. You help with washing up and keeping the place tidy. At weekends you usually provide for your own meals.

We’re a great place to come to if you’d like to improve your English and often have a mix of beginners, intermediate as well as fluent and native speakers.

You will get a good experience of Irish culture, history, politics, nature, arts and community interests. If you would like, we can also accommodate your learning of the English language.

On your days off you can discover Ireland. Volunteers often go together to places such as Galway, Derry, Belfast and UNESCO world-heritage sites, The Giants’ Causeway, Slieve League cliffs – Europe’s highest sea cliffs.
