Join Our South African School Project – Help Required
- We need volunteers to assist us with our teaching projects in surrounding junior schools which we work with. Volunteers can assist young children with reading and bring spoken English into the classroom. A TEFL background would be valuable but not essential.
- Â Odd job help around the property also needed.
Hours & Roster
- You will need to work for a maximum of 5 hours per day, 5 days per week. On weekends you are free to explore the area and we will gladly show you around.
Sleeping: Volunteers sleep in a traditional Xhosa rondavel (round house). You might have to share, depending on whether there are other volunteers. We have electricity and we get our water from rain tanks.
Linen & Laundry: Linen provided. Laundry room available.
Eating: Volunteers are offered three Xhosa/South African fusion meals a day.
Transport: Our education center is based in a remote rural village in Transkei, Eastern Cape, and South Africa. You can reach us by catching a coach bus from most major cities in SA to Butterworth and from there catching the local Debese bus which leaves at 1 pm from Butterworth to our village Mondays to Fridays, at 12 midday on Saturdays, and no bus service on Sundays. There is NO recommended overnight accommodation in Butterworth which is 80 kms from us. East London, which is on the bus route, does have backpackers.
Join Our South African School Project – Amenities & Preferences
- What to bring? We are 4km from pristine beaches and a 7km beach walk from a country hotel. It is a malaria-free area but mosquitoes can be a nuisance so bring anti-mozzie repellent and sun block for working outdoors. Wellington boots are ideal but not vital to bring with you for work as it gets muddy after rainfalls.
