Come and experience an off-grid paradise in Spain, where you can unwind, connect with like-minded people, and immerse yourself in nature. We are deeply passionate about yoga, breathwork, and creating a welcoming space for those who share our interests. My name is Femke, and I live with my family in southern Spain, close to the stunning coastline of Granada Province. Six years ago, we moved here from the Netherlands and have spent our time transforming an old Cortijo into a retreat space. While much of our effort has gone into improving the property, our own home has been somewhat neglected. This winter, we’re finally focusing on giving it the attention it deserves, and we’d love to have enthusiastic volunteers join us in bringing our vision to life.
Our home is entirely off-grid, meaning there’s no mobile phone signal, but we do have a fast and reliable internet connection. The setting is peaceful, surrounded by mountains, and just a short ten-minute drive from the beach.
Off-Grid Paradise in Spain: Tasks & Roles
Between March and April 2025, we will be working on two major projects. The first involves removing our current kitchen and installing a brand-new one, a task that will be overseen by my husband. The second project focuses on plastering and painting the interior walls, which I will be leading alongside an experienced professional. While I have some knowledge of rendering, it is more of a personal interest than an expertise, so this will be a great opportunity to learn alongside us.
We are also on the lookout for someone with a passion for healthy cooking to prepare meals for the group. If you have experience or enthusiasm for construction work, rendering, or cooking, we’d love to have you involved! Tasks will vary from mixing cement, laying blocks, sanding and cutting wood, and painting, to preparing plaster mixes, grouting tiles, and even crafting a rustic cement kitchen countertop. There will also be plenty of drilling and assembling involved. No prior experience is necessary, but a willingness to learn and get involved is essential!
Off-Grid Paradise in Spain: Living & Getting There
During your stay, you’ll be accommodated in one of our beautifully furnished apartments, which are usually rented out to retreat guests. These feature a comfortable living space, a fully equipped kitchen, and a private bathroom. Depending on the number of volunteers, you may have your own apartment, particularly if you’re a couple, or you might share a kitchen and bathroom with just one other person. You will always have a private bedroom or, at the very least, a dedicated sleeping space in the living area. In the event that all apartments are occupied, we also have a campervan available as an alternative sleeping option.
Meals are provided on working days, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can prepare breakfast at your own pace before starting the day’s tasks. Lunch and dinner will either be cooked for you or prepared by volunteers who enjoy cooking. On rest days, you will have full access to your own kitchen for self-catering.
The nearest airports are Málaga (1.5 hours away), Granada (1 hour), and Almería (1 hour). From any of these locations, you can easily catch a bus to Motril, where we will be happy to pick you up.
Off-Grid Paradise in Spain: What Else?
As we are in a remote, off-grid location, having your own car is highly recommended for independent travel. While we do make occasional trips into town, and you are welcome to join us, those without a vehicle will need to rely on others for transport.
We kindly ask volunteers to help with tidying up after meals, including washing dishes, so that we can all share the workload fairly. While there is no mobile phone reception here, our Starlink internet ensures a stable and fast connection, so you’ll still be able to stay in touch online.
We look forward to welcoming volunteers who are eager to contribute, learn new skills, and immerse themselves in this peaceful and beautiful environment!
