Volunteer work in Germany – help out on a farm

Want to help a growing community farm? Our family with 3 kids welcomes volunteers to our farm southeast of Kassel, Germany. Join us!

Volunteer work in Germany – requirements & tasks

Our family-run CSA farm, nestled in the village of Oberellenbach (60km southeast of Kassel), is thriving in its second year! With 90 members, we cultivate 3 hectares of land, growing over 50 varieties of vegetables and 18 types of potatoes. We practice horse-powered farming and offer riding opportunities. Come experience our beautiful garden and welcoming village!

Our village offers the best of both worlds: fresh produce from our farm, a friendly community, and activities like pottery to keep you busy.

We welcome volunteers year-round, whether you can stay for a few weeks or a few months. There’s always something to do on the farm, no matter the season. Longer volunteer stays (2 weeks+) create a rewarding experience for both you and us. You’ll gain valuable skills and build lasting connections, while contributing to our farm’s success.

Daily life on the farm

Our daily activities change with the seasons, but typically involve tasks like planting, weeding, harvesting, sorting produce, and caring for our animals.

Here’s a glimpse into our typical weekday schedule:

  • 7:30 am: Start the day with a communal breakfast in our family house, often accompanied by a song to foster community spirit.
  • 8:30 am – 1:00 pm: Dive into the day’s work in the fields, stables, or storage areas.
  • 1:00 pm: Enjoy a delicious team lunch prepared by Dörte or other team members in Fischer House. Volunteers are also welcome to contribute their culinary skills!
  • 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm: Resume work until the day concludes.
  • Evenings: Dinner is self-organized, giving you the freedom to cook your own meals, relax, or join in games with fellow volunteers.

Saturdays: While optional, we appreciate any help offered on Saturdays from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm.

You’ll work for about 35 hours per week.

Additional information

When packing for your stay, be sure to bring warm clothes, rubber boots, and slippers for your comfort. Feel free to bring along any musical instruments you enjoy playing! We provide towels, bedding, rain gear, and work gloves, so you don’t need to worry about those.

To help us coordinate your arrival, please let us know your travel plans. We’re happy to meet you at Alheim-Heinebach station, or you can choose to embark on a scenic 45-minute hike to the farm.

Life at our farm is simple and connected to nature. We share moments like saying a prayer before meals and singing together in the mornings. We welcome volunteers who are happy to engage in physical work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
