We are a close-knit community that thrives on pushing boundaries and embracing the impossible. At our centre, we value the unique contributions of each individual, both to themselves and to the world around them. Located in the stunning Welsh landscape, we offer an exciting opportunity for summer volunteering in Wales, where our family-run centre hosts up to 50 guests during the summer months, supported by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. Our mission is to provide nature-based adventure camps for teenagers from around the world, with a strong focus on personal development.
Summer Volunteering in Wales: Tasks & Roles
We offer a wide range of roles to suit different interests, from camp counsellors to maintenance and construction helpers, ensuring that every volunteer is matched with a position that aligns with their skills and passions. The main role for volunteers is to act as camp counsellors, providing guidance and support to teenagers during one of the most exciting and challenging times of their lives. As a counsellor, you’ll ensure that the teens are on time and prepared for their activities, keep an eye out for any conflicts or feelings of sadness, and serve as their cheerleader and confidant throughout their journey.
For those less inclined to work directly with people, there are numerous roles available within our maintenance and construction teams. This could involve building sheds, creating large puzzles in the forest, planting trees, or caring for chickens. In either role, volunteers are welcome to participate in the adventure activities, such as climbing, caving, kayaking, and archery, which take place throughout their stay.
Summer Volunteering in Wales: Living & Getting There
Volunteers live in a communal staff house, where a vibrant social atmosphere thrives. The house offers a space for board games, adventures, and meaningful conversations, providing an environment where you can bond with your fellow volunteers. Accommodation is in single-sex dormitories, shared with other temporary staff or HelpStay volunteers, with a maximum of four people per room, though typically only one other person. The dormitory is situated in the staff house, which is separate from the main centre, and you’ll have access to a shared living room, kitchen, shower, and toilet.
During the peak summer months, the house can become quite busy, but it is generally quieter at the beginning and end of the season. For travel, the nearest train stations are in Llanwrtyd Wells and Llandovery, both about a 15-minute drive away, and we can arrange a pick-up from either station. These rural stations can be a bit tricky to reach, so for longer stays, we are happy to organise pick-ups from airports in Bristol, Cardiff, or nearby locations.
Summer Volunteering in Wales: What Else
Since our founding in 2017, we have built a long tradition of welcoming volunteers, with some staying for over five years. This provides a testament to the welcoming and supportive nature of our community, offering an opportunity for personal growth, connection, and adventure in the stunning Welsh landscape.
