Volunteer in northern Ireland – requirements & tasks

We are a charity that offers outdoor adventure possibilities to people of all abilities. We create inclusive opportunities for all. Our 60 acre site and fully accessible residential centre offers everyone the opportunity to have unforgettable experiences and create memories that will last forever.

We can provide children, young adults, families, elderly and the disabled with valuable experiences to help them with their personal development, confidence, new skills, growth, career preparation, mental health challenges or just letting loose and having some fun! They can take part in arts programs, skills courses, water and land adventure sports or avail of the onsite pool and leisure center.

We ask any helpers to bring themselves to the role. Do you have any areas of expertise or interest that we could help you use and develop? We aim to link people with rewarding and meaningful tasks that they will enjoy. Certain skill sets can help us complete goals within the center although no training or qualifications are necessary. Do you have a disability? We specialize in accommodating people’s needs so just let us know and we can work with you on it.

Roles range from assisting our qualified outdoor team with adventure activities; Learn to deliver sessions in kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing or mountain biking…. to name a few! We can also place helpers in the leisure suite, housekeeping, maintenance, admin or kitchen departments. Have creative skills? Why not help our arts team run sessions in T-Shirt printing, mosaic, face painting, mudroc or ceramics. Gardening or environmental background or interests? We are always working on eco projects to supplement our already thriving conservation efforts such as our reed bed filtration system, Ridan composter, wood pellet burners and solar power systems.

Volunteer in northern Ireland – what we offer

Travellers have many choices when they choose to work with us. We have a volunteer manager whose role it is to ensure all helpers experiences are worthwhile and mutually beneficial. All volunteer activities and tasks are risk assessed and supervised by qualified team members.

Accommodation options vary throughout the year. We have two houses just off site for staff and volunteers, usually reserved for longer stays during the busy summer season. On site we have a farmhouse accommodation which is always kept available for short term volunteers.

In all cases, please expect to be sharing a bathroom and possibly also a bedroom. We aim not to fill the spaces to full capacity so as to allow enough space and privacy for the team. Female/Male only options and disability access available. Please discuss with us your needs and expectations so we can appropriately accommodate you.

If your visit coincides with a slower period at the center and some of our guest accommodation is available, we will be happy to house you in a private room in our holiday cottages or chalets during your stay, possibly even all to yourself!

All helpers will have full use of the sites facilities. Pool, gym and leisure suite can be arranged free of charge and you can use all of the centers outdoor equipment once inducted and briefed on the health+safety issues. We have our own Island just across the Lough with bothy accommodation and camping if you want a ‘night away’ during your time with us. We can provide all the camping gear too so no need to bring it along. Between bikes, boats and bothy’s, your accommodation may not see much of you!

Please note all visitors will have access to a shared fully equipped kitchen. Meals also available free of charge when the catering department are in operation, which is most of the year with some exceptions off season.
