Exchange your skills and enjoy life in California – requirements & tasks
Come learn, grow, and contribute to a greener future!
I’m a single mom, homesteading off-grid in a vibrant back-to-the-land community. We’re passionate about land stewardship and eco-forestry, and I offer nature immersion retreats where guests can experience our sustainable way of life.
At my home in the Mendocino Mountains, we’re undertaking vital projects in eco-forestry and carbon farming. The work varies with the seasons, and I’m looking for someone to join me in this hands-on learning experience. Let’s exchange skills and knowledge as we make a positive impact together!
Your days will be filled with a diverse range of activities that change with the seasons. You might find yourself clearing land, coordinating creative art projects, operating a chainsaw, hauling brush, tending burn piles, digging bioswales, or tackling weeds – all with the goal of fire prevention and creating a beautiful landscape.
There could also be opportunities to hone your carpentry or fencing skills, and you’ll share in the daily rhythm of the homestead, helping with cleaning, cooking, and preserving food. Occasionally, you might even delve into the world of fiber arts, assisting with tasks like sorting and cleaning wool, natural dyeing, spinning, and weaving.
For me, the ideal work environment allows for a relaxed pace, giving me the chance to truly appreciate the stunning views from my ridge-top home, savor home-cooked meals, and connect with the wonderful people around me. Our community is rich with wisdom, and I value the conversations and stories shared by our elders.
You’ll work for about 20 hours per week.
In your free time swim, hike, soak, explore! From refreshing swimming holes and majestic redwoods to hot springs and the captivating Mendocino Coast, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in this natural wonderland.
