Try volunteering on a farm in Canada – requirements & tasks
We are a family of four with two young adult children currently attending university. We live on a small vegetable, flower, and blueberry farm in Quebec together with two Australian shepherd dogs, two cats, and a variety of wild animals.
Having spent two decades living in Southeast Asia, we deeply appreciate meeting new people and sharing life and work experiences. In 2019, we settled into our own slice of paradise: a 55-hectare expanse of forest, a sizable blueberry patch, and a modest market garden. We are constantly striving to enhance our farm and remain dedicated to its ongoing improvement.
Aurélie, originally from France, works part-time for an agricultural organization, while Pascal, a Canadian, is always busy with various projects on our property. Our farm is situated about 5 kilometers from a small village with 2,500 inhabitants, where all essential amenities are available. Additionally, we are just 20 kilometers away from a small city with a population of 15,000. Life here is remarkably peaceful.
You’ll have the opportunity to learn how to cultivate vegetables, cut flowers, and harvest blueberries by assisting us. Your day will be filled with a variety of tasks: seeding, transplanting, weeding, fertilizing, harvesting, washing, and packing. Work will be both in the fields and in our tunnels.
We adjust daily activities according to the weather. For instance, we may work in the tunnels during rainy or cold days and start early in the morning to avoid the heat on hot days. You will work for about 20 hours per day. Half-day shifts are available, with the possibility of extending your hours if desired.
Try volunteering on a farm in Canada – what we offer
You can sleep in our guest room in our old farm house. We have shared bathrooms. In your bedroom you have a desk where you can work on your own project, with good WiFi access. We also provide a full board.
Since we spend most of our time outdoors, you’ll have the house to yourself in your free time! We also have an outdoor pizza oven and fire pit, nestled in nature – a perfect spot to relax after a fulfilling day of work! You may also borrow our bicycles. It’s incredibly peaceful here with no public transportation, but we’re happy to provide rides if needed.
