Travel and volunteer in Sweden – requirements & tasks
We are a Slovenian couple who recently moved to a farm in the picturesque Swedish countryside, near Tiveden National Park. We work remotely and dedicate our spare time to looking after our animals (currently six horses, four sheep, three dogs, chickens, and a cat), renovating the farm, gardening, and enjoying the stunning nature around us.
Many of our animals are rescues, and we dream of turning our farm into a non-profit retreat center in the future, providing a sanctuary for both animals and people struggling with mental health issues. We are enthusiastic about sharing our knowledge in areas such as equine care (including breeding), eco-farming, carpentry, cooking, and mental wellness.
Our farm offers an authentic Swedish experience with adventures in the beautiful forests and lakes. It is an ideal retreat for creative individuals, providing a peaceful environment perfect for writing, painting, composing music, or any other artistic pursuits.
Located in the southernmost wilderness area in Sweden and close to the large Vänern and Vättern lakes, our farm is surrounded by numerous smaller lakes with inviting beaches and forest trails. This natural beauty offers plenty of opportunities for swimming, cycling, canoeing, and enjoying barbecues.
Your tasks will vary depending on the season, but we mainly need help with:
- Gardening and replanting small trees.
- Renovating the stables, building and installing fences (basic carpentry skills are a plus, but enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are also welcome).
- Caring for the horses, including brushing, light stable cleaning, and feeding.
- Collecting firewood from the nearby forest for winter.
- Harvesting blueberries and mushrooms in August and September.
- Participating in creative projects like crafting a sensory barefoot path, building an outdoor shower, and putting together a simple greenhouse.
We provide our guests with a memorable experience and are happy to adjust tasks to match your comfort level. However, we need help with some wood preparation each week.
You will work for a maximum of 5 hours per day, 5 days a week, with flexible schedule to suit your needs.
Travel and volunteer in Sweden – what we offer
We provide a well-maintained caravan with a separate bedroom, comfortably accommodating two people. The caravan is equipped with a kitchen, heating, and ample closet space, ensuring a cozy stay. Additionally, Wi-Fi is available, and amenities such as a barbecue, bicycles, and various sporting equipment are provided. If you’re traveling with your own caravan or tent, there’s plenty of space for you to choose your preferred spot. We welcome well-socialized and well-behaved animals.
We have also recently renovated our guest house, which accommodates 4-6 people, offering another lodging option.
For laundry needs, volunteers are welcome to use our washing machine. We provide two daily meals: breakfast and lunch. Our cuisine mainly features vegetables, with occasional servings of salmon, fish, and meat, inspired predominantly by Mediterranean flavors. During the summer, vegetables will come from our homegrown produce. If you have any dietary restrictions or preferences, such as vegetarian or vegan, we are happy to accommodate them.
