Join a horse show team as a volunteer in Scotland – requirements & tasks
We are a family run business who provide live entertainment stunt shows all over the UK and Ireland. We currently have dogs, cats, 22 horses & chickens. The horses vary from the ones who are retired, show ready & in training. We are 4 full time people who live & work on the farm all year round (& 2 larger than life children). We look for volunteers or working students each year between months of April-September.
The working days vary. Some days are long, some days are much shorter & some days you may find you dip in & out of jobs, but you are working with a nice enthusiastic group of people (sometimes up to 10 people working and living together).
Jobs include:
– Everyday care for the performing horses and dogs
– Care and maintenance of tack and equipment
– Preparing horses for rehearsals and training sessions.
– Preparing vehicles for shows (lorries, cars, 4×4, trailers etc.) and post show care of vehicles
– Pre and post show care of costumes (horse and rider)
– General farm/yard jobs
You will be expected to work independently and as part of a team. Day to day tasks are different for the au pair helpers. Please let us know if you are interested in this position so we can discuss these jobs.
Everyone works to their own schedule. Volunteers working time is divided into working time in the stables, house work & working time on other jobs. Everyone has 2 allocated days off per week, when you can explore the Scottish countryside or nip into the local town.
Generally our working day starts between 7.30-8 am , we will discuss the morning jobs at breakfast, meet again for lunch around 12.30-1 pm , discuss the afternoon jobs and meet for dinner around 5.30 pm.
You will work for about 35 hours per week.
