We are a community of potato lovers, situated in Wendland in the east of the Lüneburger Heide in Lower Saxony. Come improve your German, stay in our hotel while working with us. We offer you experience in a foreign country with super friendly people.
Help in a potato hotel in Germany – requirements & taks
Our passion is cultivating potatoes from all over the world, cooking tasty dishes and serving them to our guests. Besides, we publish the best recipes in our internet blog. We run the one and only potato hotel and restaurant in Germany and need help with all tasks related to it.
Your tasks will be for example helping to prepare breakfast, helping with service in the restaurant or with housekeeping and cleaning. We also need help with gardening and cultivating rare potato plants in the potato field. We heat with wood and there is a lot of work chopping wood and felling trees.
Do you know special potato recipes? Great, you can help us cook in the kitchen! If you want to help in the restaurant, you should have a little knowledge of the German language.
You need to be friendly, hardworking and flexible. We work with people from all over the world who visit us at the potato hotel. You need to be tolerant, cosmopolitan and open minded.
We will ask you to help us for 3- hours a week and you will have 2 days off.
Help in a potato hotel in Germany – what we offer
We have a place to live especially for our volunteers. You stay in hotel rooms with multiple beds and get free food and drinks in our restaurant. Vegetarian food is not a problem, we have a lot of potatoes 😉
You will have an opportunity to improve your German. Once a week we organize a German teacher for you.
All of our helpers have made a book together, where you can find lots of ideas on what to do during your free time (cycling and hiking tours, bus trips, places to see). This book is to be completed by everyone who stays with us.
We offer bicycles to go to the town nearby (Lüchow, 4 kms) or even further. There are always possibilities to organize a car ride to Lüchow, sometimes also to Dannenberg, Hitzacker or Lüneburg. All of these towns have picturesque medieval city centres and are worth visiting. The river Elbe is also near, part of the former German-German border and worth visiting for all those who are interested in the history of Germany.
