Promote earth-friendly travel practices as a volunteer in a hostel – requirements & tasks
The Green Elephant Hostels offer a tranquil refuge in Maastricht—a hub for a community of working nomads, conscientious global travellers, and health enthusiasts committed to responsible living. Every aspect of our space is tailored to enhance guests’ well-being throughout their stay, from a refreshing juice upon check-in to moments of relaxation in the urban city garden or rejuvenating experiences at Vivacious wellness centre. Our hostel stands as one of Europe’s most luxurious, inviting visitors to maintain their health and consciousness while travelling, just as they would at home.
Typical tasks include:
Cleaning: Keeping the place clean and tidy, including making beds, cleaning bathrooms, and doing laundry.
Reception: Greeting guests, checking them in and out, and handling any questions or concerns they may have.
Serving guests: Breakfast or other meals, serving drinks, and setting tables.
Kitchen: Assisting the Chef/Cook with the preparing of meals, washing dishes and kitchen hygiene.
Maintenance: Fixing any broken items, repairing damages, and keeping the place in good working order.
Gardening: Maintaining the grounds and gardens, planting flowers, and keeping the outdoor areas tidy.
Marketing and promotion: Assisting with marketing and promoting the hospitality establishment through various channels, such as social media and travel portals.
Art & music: Drawing and painting indoor/outdoor wall murals. Playing music in the bar or running a DJ set.
You will work for about 20 hours per week.

You will not be mixed with guests but have a complete volunteer dorm and kitchen to use. We also provide a half board.
