We welcome extra hands on our Self Sufficient Homestead. Volunteer on a Self Sufficient Homestead in South Africa, it’s a lot of fun but also a lot of work. We are building our own straw bale house, planting a food forest and orchards, raising chickens, and still need to maintain our living area and make an income. Extra hands are so welcome.

Self Sufficient Homestead – Help Required

  • We need someone enthusiastic and willing to help with all the daily chores, and open to all tasks.

Hours & Roster

  • We ask that you work with us each day but are also able to work alone too.
  • Take Sunday off to hike or rest and Saturday is a slow day just maintaining living or selling at the market.

Sleeping: There is a small timber cabin with 2 single beds and shared ablutions with a hot if short shower.

Linen & Laundry: Bed linen included. Laundry facilities are available on-site.

Eating: We offer 3 healthy meals each day – mostly vegetarian. Our hens give us eggs and we buy in or trade for milk.

Transport: The nearest international airport is Cape Town International Airport (CPT). We are located approx. 2h 30 min drive from the airport. We can provide more details on how best to reach us on confirmation of the stay.

Self Sufficient Homestead – Amenities & Preferences

  • We have had many volunteers so have been able to set up a comfortable system for all.
  • We prefer friends traveling or couples as we are a bit remote.
  • We take volunteers from September until May.
