Volunteer in Portugal in a reforestation project – requirements & tasks
Our project runs in weekly stages:
Week 1 – Soil regeneration project. Seeding, spreading straw bales as germination support.
Week 2 – Tree plantation in irrigation context – replacing lost trees, mix of forest and fruit trees
Week 3-4 – Wild forest and native tree plantation
The sequence of the stages are defined by weather conditions so may not be in this particular order and may take longer than 4 weeks.
This project requires a one-off fee of 70 EUR. For other projects which are fully free, browse other opportunities in Portugal.
We invite you for 7 days initially. After that time we will review your work and your impressions and if you’d like to stay on for another week or more, we will discuss it then.
We will ask you to work from 9 am to 4 pm with a break for lunch from Monday to Friday. Work will include helping with all the day-to-day tasks of running the center: assisting in the kitchen, cooking, cleaning, serving, gardening and garden maintenance, construction and general collaboration with reforestation project. You will also need to participate in cleaning of common spaces.
Volunteer in Portugal in a reforestation project – what we offer
When you complete at least one stage of the project (or more), you will receive a Certificate of Participation including hours and project details.
In exchange for 6 hours of work, 5 days a week we offer 3 vegan meals a day, accommodation in shared rooms or camping/campervan (in your own tent/van). You will have a unique opportunity to learn about reforestation and land rehabilitation using bio-dynamic and permaculture principles.
You will also enjoy the amazing nature of Portugal. Awakeland is located the foothills of the Monchique mountain, with the Atlantic ocean in sight. We also offer meditation, yoga and tantra workshops, retreats and therapies.
